Good demand for new shipping service between Samoa and Cook Islands

The Samoa Shipping Corporation says there is good demand for a new commercial service between Samoa and the Cook Islands' northern group.

The Corporation recently launched a charter service to the Cooks with the MV Lady Naomi making return trips once every two months.

Samoa Shipping's General Manager, Papalii Willie Nansen, says he is hoping the chartered services can eventually transport fish and copra as well as passengers.

"The services that we provide to the northern Cooks are mainly cargo. We don't have passengers but we are capable of taking 12 passengers. We haven't gone to the extent of discussing further arrangements but we've initiated the effort in trying to get the the first trip done."

Papalii Willie Nansen says the new shipping service will be monitored and the Corporation is working on ironing out issues and making improvements.
