In the Marshall Islands, the coconut processing factory in Majuro expects to make its first shipment of copra cake to Taiwan this weekend as a result of a new contract with Taoyuan City, Taiwan-based Grobest Holdings Limited.

Copra cake is the byproduct of processing dried coconut meat into oil and is sought after for fertilizer and animal feed.

The Marshall Islands Ambassador to Taiwan, Phillip Kabua, says an agreement for 600 metric tons of copra meal to be shipped from Majuro to Taiwan from May through July has been signed.

He says he hopes the Majuro coconut plant can get a better deal on shipping in the future, so that a long term exclusive business contract can be inked.
