10:53 am on 9 May 2012

With just over three weeks until kick-off, the Solomon Islands national team is ramping up it's preparations for next month's Oceania Nations Cup football tournament.

This weekend they will hold a training camp on Malaita before a trip to Australia where the team has arranged some warm-up fixtures.

The Bonito's tactical preparations have also been boosted with the arrival of a French Technical and Coaching consultant, Laurent Papillon.

Solomon Islands Football Federation President, Martin Alufurai, believes his contributions over the coming weeks will increase Solomon Islands competitiveness going into the tournament.

"He's doing well and most especially we're happy to see he's setting in and I read comments yesterday from him saying I am now a Solomon Islander. I'm really happy to read those comments because it's very important for a coach that he must feel like a person of this country."

The Nation's Cup is being held in Solomon Islands for the first time

and the winner will represent Oceania at the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.
