Sport: Tonga rugby enjoying a smooth restructuring

The Tonga Rugby Union's new constitution is expected to be ratified tomorrow.

Tonga rugby is the process of restructing its administration after the two year tenure of the Tonga Rugby Union Authority finished in March.

TRFU interim deputy chairman Aminiasi Kefu says the passing of the new constitution, with amendments, was adopted unanimously at a special general meeting at the weekend.

"We anticipated a vigorous debate on some of the clauses but it seems most of the members of the special general meeting were predetermined on the amendments that they had. That was the advantage of having previous public consultation and also disclosing the draft constitution before the meeting. So a lot of credit for those rugby clubs and the members for making an effort to study the constitution and proposing their amendments."

Aminiasi Kefu says a new board of directors is scheduled to be elected at the end of the month allowing the interim directors to step down.
