Marshalls telecommunications authority to get new head

10:27 am on 30 April 2012

A management shakeup is underway at the Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority following a recent board meeting.

At the meeting, resolutions were passed asking for the resignation of vice president and chief finance officer Ron Cenicola, to demote Yoshi Kaneko from president and CEO to executive vice president, and to hire a new person for the CEO position.

The Authority board moved to change its top executives after it learned that management, without consulting with the board or the government, had defaulted on two loans.

The board's move comes as the government is pushing a plan to open the telecommunications sector to competition for the first time with World Bank incentive funding.
