Pacifc Games Council given reassurance PNG will deliver 2015 Pacific Games

The Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council says meetings over the next few days in Port Moresby will hopefully provide confidence Papua New Guinea is capable of hosting the 2015 Pacific Games.

The Council wasn't impressed when it visited in February, uneasy that funding hadn't been secured and facilities weren't on track.

Council Executive Director Andrew Minogue says Council President Vidya Lakhan has had an initial meeting with PNG Sports minister, Bart Philemon.

"We were reassasured by the Minister but when we have the full meetings on Monday and Tuesday we'll be looking at the issues we raised with the Minister in quite a lot of detail. So the reassurances on Friday morning were a very good start. But for the Games Council's own assessments we need to spend a lot of time over the next few days with the stakeholders here so we're very comfortable with all aspects of where they are in terms of planning and event delivery."
