Australian Foreign Minister talks to US about Fiji

Australia's Foreign Minister Bob Carr has discussed the situation in Fiji in his first meeting with the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that in his 50-minute meeting with Secretary Clinton, Mr Carr discussed pressing issues of common interest in the Asia Pacific region.

Meanwhile, Mr Carr will visit Fiji on Monday.

Mr Carr is expected to talk to members of the military-led government while in Fiji to gauge the regime's progress towards planned elections in 2014.
