Sarkozy eligibility queried over French registry entry

A voter in French Polynesia is among several questioning the eligibility of the UMP's Nicolas Sarkozy in the French presidential election.

Rene Hoffer backs the campaign by the French group, SOS Justice and Human Rights, which has obtained confirmation from the French registry that Nicolas Sarkozy's name doesn't match the name in his birth certicate and his marriage licence with Italy's Carla Bruni.

The group lodged a complaint in Nice in February, alleging he and his accomplices used a falsified public document.

Mr Hoffer says they want to test in court whether the French president can run for re-election.

"There is no Nicolas Sarkozy in the registry. His real name is Nicolas Sarkozy de Nagy Bocsa."

Rene Hoffer says they expect that the constitutional court will give its opinion before the run-off election in two weeks.

Mr Sarkozy came second in the weekend vote, winning slightly fewer votes than his Socialist rival, Francois Hollande.
