NZ to give Fiji further help after floods

12:06 pm on 20 April 2012

New Zealand will contribute another 800,000 US dollars towards recovery and reconstruction work in Fiji following the recent floods.

The foreign minister, Murray McCully, says today's announcement brings New Zealand's total contribution to 1.8 million US dollars.

Mr McCully says the floods forced the evacuation of 14,000 people and destroyed homes, businesses and crops.

He says the government wants to see flood-affected communities in Fiji rebuild their homes and lives as quickly as possible.
