Spike in tourism expected for Niue following Lady Gaga campaign

The Niue Tourism Board has seen a huge spike in interest on its website following a campaign to get pop star Lady Gaga to play at a concert on the island.

Hayden Porter of the Niue Tourism Board says the Lady Gaga promotion was a genuine offer to the celebrity and they are still awaiting a response but the campaign was also another way to market Niue.

Mr Porter says the site has seen up to four times the normal amount of traffic which he expects will convert into bookings in time for the coming high season.

"I guess you could say it was timed fairly well with our key selling period. We are certainly very happy with forward bookings and airline loads in fact so much so we do hope to announce additional flights within the next week or so."

Hayden Porter says the Board has also been approached by a film-maker and another band wanting to play on Niue.
