Nominees for Pacific Music Awards announced

6:39 am on 17 April 2012

The nominations for the Pacific Music Awards have been announced, with hip-hop artist David Dallas and R&B duo Adeaze leading the charge with four nods each.

Not far behind is Kas Futialo, also known as The Feelstyle, who is nominated in three categories including best Pacific Language for his 'Good Morning Samoa' album.

A total of 14 artists and groups were announced as finalists in Auckland on Monday night, with organisers saying they're a mix of established and up and coming artists.

Petrina George, from the Pacific Music Awards Trust, says the best language album category is a good example of the diversity in the Pacific artists nominated.

"I think it gave them another focus because sometimes they think the awards aren't for us, or not for them. So I think it did open it up a little bit, and we want to keep opening them up more, and it's great to have the mix with Kas with the contemporary style and then you have Te Vaka and the choir with the more traditional."

Other nominees include Stks Te Vaka, Bella Kalolo, Ria, Ms J, The Hypnotiks, and the Samoan Autalavou P.I.P.C Newton.

The awards are in their eighth year and winners will be announced on the 28th of May.
