10:28 am on 13 April 2012

Since arriving in the territory yesterday, the New Zealand Sevens Captain DJ Forbes has been admiring the sights of American Samoa.

Forbes is among a number of VIPs to attend the inaugural Marist sevens in Pago Pago this weekend

Forbes says its great to be able to squeeze the trip into a tight schedule which required some negotaiting by his uncle, Peter "Fats" Fatialofa.

"Fats had to do some arm twistng with my coach and trainer back in Auckland. Everyone is preparing for the last leg of the IRB world series and everyone knows how tightly contested that is. So I have to make sure I don't eat too much, corn beef and stuff like that while I'm here."

The two day Marist tournament offers a first prize of 10,000 US dollars.
