The director of Fiji's Disaster Management Office says power and water have been restored to more than half of the people whose supply was cut by flooding.

Pajiliai Dobui says the number of people in evacuation centres on the main island of Viti Levu has dropped from 14,000 to between seven and eight thousand.

He says the Rewa delta area in eastern Viti Levu is still submerged but flood waters have completely receded in the Western Division.

"Most of the areas that were affected by the water cuts and the power cuts have reached more than 50 percent restoration rate. It looks like the rest will just take the weekend."

Pajiliai Dobui says Nadi and Sigatoka are the areas where flooding has caused the most damage.
