NZ Heads of Mission meeting MFAT to discuss proposed cuts

10:29 am on 2 April 2012

Nearly 40 of the country's top foreign diplomats will meet in Wellington today to discuss the proposed cuts to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Ministry has invited the heads of mission to a two-day summit to discuss its future, and how it can save 24-million-dollars.

Last week, the Labour Party released a letter showing that many of the diplomats believe the proposed changes that would cut up to 300 jobs, would undermine the Ministry's strengths.

Labour's foreign affairs and trade spokesperson, Phil Goff, says he hopes the Ministry will take note of their concerns at the meeting.
