Appointment of Vanuatu Public Service Commissioner sparks controversy

7:51 pm on 28 March 2012

Vanuatu's former deputy commissioner of Police, Holi Simon, has been appointed to head the Vanuatu Public Service Commission.

But sources in Port Vila say the appointment by the Head of State has angered the victims of the failed Holi Simon Investment Group scheme.

That scheme, five years ago, promised to import farm machinery, sewing machines and construction materials but there is no sign of anything arriving in the country.

Mr Simon has since kept a low profile as investors sought but failed to get their money back.

Our correspondent, Len Garae, says it has come as a surprise to many that he has apparently been living in Port Vila throughout this period.
