American Samoa free legal service staffer jailed in California

A former office manager for a free legal service organisation in American Samoa, U'una'i Legal Services, Julie Mata'u, has been jailed for 12 months and one day by a court in Oakland in California for misappropriation.

Mata'u has also been ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release, include 8 hours each week in community service.

The judge also ordered her to pay nearly 160 thousand US dollars in restitution.

Mata'u was convicted of using 160 thousand dollars in federal grants to the organisation for her own purposes.
