Sport: Tonga to meet PNG in women's Olympic football final

11:55 am on 6 March 2012

Hosts Tonga will meet Papua New Guinea in the final of the Oceania Women's Olympic football Qualifiers, after emphatic final round victories on Monday.

Tonga only needed a draw to advance to the final but went ahead in the fourth minute before running away with the match 6-1.

Striker Piuingi Feke continued her red-hot form, notching a quick-fire hat-trick inside four minutes.

The second half saw Tonga's Si'i Manu and Samoa's Henifa Bryce both given their marching orders after a skirmish but by then the result was never in doubt.

Tonga will play Pacific Games champions Papua New Guinea in Wednesday's final, who underlined their favouritism for the title with an 11-1 rout of Vanuatu.

The winner will progress to a home and away playoff against New Zealand to decide who will represent Oceania at the London Olympics.
