Work hour cuts on cards for CNMI schools

The Northern Marianas education commissioner, Rita Sablan, says a lack of government funding could force across the board cuts to work hours in public schools.

Ms Sablan says the proposal, presented to the Board of Education's fiscal and personnel committee, is among the worst-case scenarios as the school system struggles to survive until the end of the fiscal year in September.

Earlier this year Ms Sablan directed the public schools to go to shorter teaching day so students could be sent home early, in an effort to cut electricity expenses.
