The Attorney General's Office in American Samoa has charged a man for allegedly harassing a female police officer.

Leopu Alosio appeared in District Court yesterday for the misdemeanor harassment charge, a crime punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

According to prosecutors, the alleged harassment was carried out over the phone and had started when the female officer contacted Alosio regarding a case he was allegedly involved with.

The defendant, who denied the charges against him, is scheduled to appear before the District Court again for his pre-trial hearing.
