More Japanese tourists touted for American Samoa

A Japanese government official says there's every likelihood that more Japanese could be enticed to holiday in American Samoa.

Consul for Defense Affairs, Shimpei Ara, has been in the territory this week on a courtesy and fact finding mission.

He says there is potential in promoting American Samoa as a tourism experience that contrasts with Hawaii where many Japanese go.

"Many many Japanese tend to visit Hawaii instead of American Samoa, but if American Samoa people develop their local tourism appropriately I believe more and more Japanese people would visit here."
