The Samoan family welfare non-governmental organisation, Mapusaga o Aiga, has been closed down amid allegations funds have gone missing.

15,000 US dollars from the United States aid programme is alleged to have gone missing while the NGO's office lease of ajust over 4,000 dollars has not been paid.

A former board member of Mapusaga o Aiga has described the development as an embarrassment for an organisation that had stood strongly to protect women and children from abuse.

The organisation's CEO is reported to be leaving the country.
