The Cook Islands is to receive more than three million US dollars in aid from China.

An Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed last week between Prime Minister Henry Puna, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Marsters and visiting Chinese envoy, Li Qiangmin.

No details about how the money will be spent have been made public but Mr Marsters says the money will help achieve the goals set out in the National Sustainable Development Plan.

He says the Cook Islands government welcomed Mr Li's visit as a sign of the very warm relations between the two countries and it is looking forward to building on this foundation.
