Marshalls backs Zachios for FFA top job

3:09 pm on 24 February 2012

The Marshall Islands government has nominated a former member of parliament and minister, Gerald Zackios, to head the Solomon Islands-based Forum Fisheries Agency.

The director of the Marine Resources Authority, Glen Joseph, say Mr Zachios was originally nominated by the former government and has the support of the new government.

He says Mr Zachios has a master's degree in international law of the sea, and has national level involvement in the fisheries department's institutional strengthening.

A decision on the new Director General will be made at the FFA's annual meeting in Tonga in July.
