Agricultural lease tenants affected by severe flooding in Fiji's Western Division have had their rent waived for the year.
The iTaukei Trust Board has waived the payments of 541 tenants in the Nadroga-Rakiraki corridor.
In a statement, the Trust Board's General Manager Alipate Qetaki says the leases cost just over 192,000 US dollars.
Following a meeting last week, the Board also asked the government to subsidise the equivalent amount to ensure the landowners do not miss out on rent due this year.
Mr Qetaki says there are other forms of assistance for tenants who contact yhe iTaukei Trust Board to discuss their situation.
