Bail variations granted for Fijians accused of urging political violence

8:23 pm on 22 February 2012

Bail variations have been granted today by Fiji's Acting Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili for four people charged with inciting political violence.

The four include the former prominent politician and businesswoman, Dr Mere Samisoni.

Fiji Village reports that Samisoni and her three co-accused will now have to report to police three times a week instead of reporting daily.

However the curfew condition will remain for the four accused.

It is alleged that the four, between the months of September and December last year, in Suva intentionally conspired to overthrow the government.

The defendants have not entered pleas yet as their legal teams still await full disclosures from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which has a further three weeks to provide the disclosures.
