First American Samoa workers off to Guam this week

4:25 pm on 20 February 2012

The first group of American Samoa workers looking for opportunities in Guam, are set to head there on Thursday.

The workers, travelling with the assistance of the federal government's National Emergency Grants, had been due to go earlier this month, but were delayed by the late arrival of orientation trainers from Guam.

That work will continue on Guam for another three months and include familiarisation with the US territory, the work environment and laws, vocation and workforce ethics.

The group is expected to be hired by a firm in Guam during the training phase or immediately after.

They are expected to mostly work in construction projects, preparing for the transfer of US marines from Japan.
