The Solomon Islands' Acting Police Commissioner has clarified that officers are not being rearmed with firearms or ammunition.
Walter Kola's comments come after he said on Wednesday that only officers trained in new weapons of less-lethal force would be re-armed.
Mr Kola told the Solomon Star the weapons he has referred to, including CS sprays and rubber bullet guns, can be used to manage disorder but at the moment police only have the authority to use them in training.
He adds that police officers are still not ready to be re-armed and any plans on re-armament must come from the government.
However the Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo made a public announcement on Wednesday that police are being re-armed with less-lethal force weapons.
