Samoa and Fiji's men claimed victory on day one of the Asian Continental Cup Beach Volleyball tournament in Mt Maunganui, with the Samoan women edging their Fijian rivals in a golden set.
Samoa's men swept Vanuatu 4-0 with the top pairing of Afa Lauvai and Toetu Toetu winning both of their matches in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Fiji scored a 3-1 victory over Papua New Guinea with Pacifc Games champions Aisake Raratabu and Waisale Suka leading the way.
In the women's competition, Samoa needed a golden set to see off Fiji.
The top duo of Vaituutuu Taua and Leute Mataipule sealed victory over Fiji's Alitiana Dokonivalu and Alitia Yaya in the deciding golden set 15-9.
