The police in Samoa are investigating the theft of more than half a million US dollars from the customs office in the Ministry of Revenue on Monday.

The assistant police commissioner, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, says two junior customs officers have been charged with theft.

He says the police have recovered 15 thousand dollars in cash and most of the cheques stolen from the customs' strong safe.

The police say the stolen money was the customs' office daily collection, to be banked the next day.
