Costs of flooding in Fiji soar

The Fiji Ministry of Disaster Management's permanent secretary, says flood damage costs to infrastructure now stand at $17.5 million US dollars.

According to FBC news a projected figure of $24 million was earlier estimated.

Colonel Inia Seruiratu says all schools have been opened, except for two, and more than 150 evacuees are still at the lone evacuation centre in the Western division.

The state of natural disaster has been extended in parts of the Western Division.

The Ministry says the two major challenges for them now is restoring water supply to areas and addressing health issues.
