Fiji Red Cross focusing on emergency health supplies for flood-affected

7:46 pm on 13 February 2012

The Fiji Red Cross says it will be focusing on distributing emergency health supplies to people in the flood-affected Western Division while a state of natural disaster remains in place.

More than one-hundred-and 60 evacuees are waiting for the mud to be cleared from their houses so they can return home.

The disaster management co-ordinator, Esdroma Ledua, says the Red Cross has finished giving out rations and is now working with the Ministry of Health on communicable diseases.

"Now we are focusing on our health and emergency supplies which are the three hygiene kit, wash kit and our dignity packs."

Esdroma Ledua would not confirm the presence of typhoid or diarrhoea and the Ministry of Health was unavailable for comment.
