5:55 pm on 9 February 2012

The Fiji health ministry has contradicted the Fiji Red Cross which said five villages were quarantined because of typhoid.

The Red Cross comment came in an assessment of the clean-up after recent flooding mainly on Viti Levu.

The ministry says there is no typhoid in the area.

The ministry says health officials are monitoring the situation on the ground and ensuring that those affected from the floods have access to basic health services and facilities.
