US top Pacific aid official due in Fiji

1:03 pm on 8 February 2012

The United States top foreign aid official in the Pacific, Gloria Steele, will visit Fiji later this week.

She will meet the Suva-based representatives of other donor nations as well as agencies such as the Secretariat of the Pacific Community and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.

The United States international aid agency, USAID, has recently initiated new programmes with the SPC and the Pacific Regional Environment Programme.

This involves enhancing the capacity of Pacific countries to improve food and water security, protect critical ecosystems, and to help communities to make effective and sustainable decisions in the face of climate change.
