Heavy rain heading towards Vanua Levu in Fiji

10:02 am on 6 February 2012

Heavy rain and strong winds are moving towards the Northern Division of Fiji and another front is heading towards Tonga.

A senior forecaster at the Fiji Meteorological Service, Amit Singh, says a rain band over Viti Levu is starting to abate and there have been no reports of more flooding.

He says the rain is heading towards Vanua Levu.

"The wind's already starting to ease, we expect the rain band to move through the northern division so we expect some easing above Viti Levu, and also the western division, the eastern division, and the central division. Flooding will be more likely in the northern division."

Mr Singh says a depression near the southern part of Tonga could cause gale force winds and rough seas.
