Governor Togiola Tulafono has put to rest speculation that he will be running for American Samoa' s seat in the U.S. Congress in the November general elections.

Togiola, who is barred by the constitution from running for a third term as governor, has been rumoured to be eying the seat now occupied by Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin.

Speaking on his weekly radio show, the governor said that he is not running for Congress in the next elections.

He said in 2008 he asked voters for another term as governor and they gave him their confidence so he will finish his four years as the chief

executive before considering whether to make a run for Congress.

Togiola is now the longest serving governor since American Samoa began electing its own governor in 1977, having served since 2003.
