5:17 am on 2 February 2012

The American Samoan governor's nominee for Director of Eduation, Dr Jacinta Galeai, has been rejected by the Senate a second time.

Dr Galeai needed 10 yes votes to be confirmed however only eight senators supported her nomination while six were opposed.

By law, the govenror is barred from submitting her nomination again and she can no longer serve in that position.

A senior senator said the rejection of Dr. Galeai is a reflection of the differences between the Senate leadership and Governor Togiola Tulafono, and not a refelction on her ability.
