American Samoa works towards dealing with e-trash

7:08 pm on 30 January 2012

The American Samoa government is working towards the safe disposal of electronic trash, or e-waste.

The territory doesn't have a program in place to deal with electronic waste and many old and broken electronics are left on the side of the road or not properly disposed.

The head of the Information Technology department, Asi Bruce, says e-waste is becoming a big problem.

"A lot of them are dangerous to the environment, so we are ramping up to try to get an electronic waste programme together, so that we can properly dispose of computers and electronic computing devices and so forth."

Asi Bruce says the department will hopefully be working with a number of other government agencies.
