A New Zealand company supporting overseas investors into the country says the unstable political situation in French Polynesia is prompting people to move to New Zealand.
The company Domaines, which helps foreigners buy property in New Zealand, is holding a real estate fair in Tahiti this weekend to meet potential investors.
Its founder Jean-Michel Hauter says the economic recession in French Polynesia is just one factor driving people to New Zealand.
"It's not only the downturn, it's more the political situation because they change their government I would say every month or so maybe. And there is a lot also of corruption there from the politicians, so people are very bored with it. They look at New Zealand as a country which is free of corruption."
Jean-Michel Hauter says ten to 20 percent of investors from French Polynesia and New Caledonia hope to become residents in New Zealand.
