Sport: SRU says surplus world cup funds will help pay for 2012

The Samoa Rugby Union says surplus funds from last years World Cup fundraising drive will be go towards helping pay for upcoming international tournaments in 2012.

Last week the SRU released the independent audit of its accounts for the 10 months up to and including last years Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

The union recorded a net surplus of 326 thousand US dollars with fundraising receipts towards Manu Samoa's World Cup campaign of just under 2-point-1 million US dollars, compared with almost 1-point-5 million in expenses.

The SRU Treasurer, Klaus Stunzner, says the surplus funds from the world cup will assist with costs relating to the upcoming Pacific Rugby Cup and Pacific Nations Cup tournaments and the home test against Scotland in June.
