10:56 am on 19 January 2012

The Guam Senator Frank Blas Jr. has announced that he will run for the seat of Guam's delegate in the United States Congress.

Seanator Blas, the Republican minority leader in the Legislature, will challenge the incumbent Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo.

He tells the Pacific Daily News that if elected, he will work to increase economic opportunity, and investigate the impact of the compacts of free association.

Guam's Governor Eddie Calvo is endorsing Mr Blas calling him a man of the people.

He has served three terms in the Guam Legislature, and was the island's first Homeland Security adviser, from 2003 to 2006.
