Fiji police chief to move against 'fake' officers

12:44 pm on 16 January 2012

Fiji's Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua, has vowed to remove from the force what he describes as fake officers.

According to the Fiji Sun, the Commissioner made the comment during a medal presentation at the Labasa Police Station.

He says he knows these officers exist, and he has asked the police to turn them around and kick them out if they do not change.

Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua says he knows of investigating officers, who have abused their powers when executing their duties.

His comments come just days after two police constables were charged with robbery.

In actions pertaining to public order, however, police officers cannot be legally challenged.
