Major political parties in Papua New Guinea are competing to establish offices in provinces throughout the country in preparation for the upcoming general elections.

The parties, including the National Alliance Party, Melanesian Alliance Party, New Generation Party, Papua New Guinea Party and Peoples Democratic Movement are searching for vacant office spaces.

According to the Post Courier newspaper, hopeful candidates have also started to approach their respective political parties for sponsorship in their bid to win an electorate in the mid-year elections.

The Head of the Registrar of Political Parties Sir Kina Bona says a number of parties have indicated their interest to register but do not yet have the sufficient membership numbers or fees.
