A former Fiji politician accused of involvement in a bid to overthrow the government is due back in court on the 25th of this month.

Dr Mere Samisoni and three others, Mataiasi Ragigia, Apete Vereti and Semisi Lasike, have been released on bail after their arrest by the military last Friday.

Annell Husband reports.

"Suva's Magistrate's Court set bail for Dr Samisoni at almost three thousand US dollars, with conditions including reporting to police and a curfew. The 73-year-old's New Zealand lawyer Peter Williams QC says there's no problem with the conditions, which are usual for such cases. He says the businesswoman has been charged with conspiracy and over the next couple of days he will be assessing the prosecution's evidence to decide how to handle the case. Mr Williams says Dr Samisoni looks fragile but is amazingly strong and has endured five days of imprisonment and interrogation remarkably well."
