Japan has sharply cut back the amount of money it's prepared to commit for the relocation of US troops from Okinawa to Guam.
Nearly 9 thousand US marines and their families are scheduled to be relocated to the US territory.
The Marianas Variety says Japan's move follows the U.S. Senate's approval of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, which has reduced what Washington would spend on the transfer exercise.
The Mainichi Daily News reports that Japan has cut its planned contribution from 667 million dollars to 93 point 5 million.
The allocation for the U.S. military realignment in Japan, including the movement of the Futenma air base, is now 768 million US dollars, a 41 percent cut on what was budgetted for the exercise last year.
