French Polynesian education minister dismayed at inspector cut

4:07 pm on 22 December 2011

French Polynesia's education minister has denounced a French decision to disestablish two education inspector positions.

Tauhiti Nena says the elimination of the two positions is brutal and occurred without any discussions.

Mr Nena says the move, which is effective from the beginning of next month, destabilises teacher training in the middle of the school year.

Tahitipresse says a committtee has been set up to support education in the territory, with an online petition seeking to have the decision overturned.
