A nominee to the Northern Mariana Islands' tourism body says the Commonwealth needs to improve its tourism infrastructure.

Kwang Joong Kim, who is a nominee to the Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors, says the CNMI needs to add more tourist sites, upgrade existing hotels, and build new ones that will cater to high-end tourist markets.

Mr Kim, who has 25 years experience in tourism and airline business, adds that the CNMI's hotels are old and out-of-date and tourists won't want to stay in them.

He says the CNMI also needs efficient and affordable public transportation.
