Solomon Islands prime minister gives ministers deadline to perform

1:29 pm on 13 December 2011

Reports from the Solomon Islands say the Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has given cabinet ministers one hundred days to perform or lose their job.

The Solomon Star reports sources close to the prime minister saying he is eyeing opposition MPs to replace ministers who don't live up to his expectations.

The paper says some opposition members indicated support for the prime minister at a recent meeting.

The paper also reports Mr Lilo has yet to name a replacement minister for the Communication and Aviation portfolio, after the court nullified the election of East Are'are MP, Andrew Hanaria.
