There's a call for Papua New Guinea to put more effort into trying to recover money and resources shipped overseas by the beneficiaries of corruption.
Today is International Anti - Corruption Day and the UN Resident Co-ordinator in PNG, David McLachlan-Karr, says corruption undermine development and penalises the poor the most.
He says as well as prosecuting corrupt people, PNG should also try and ensure goods stolen through corruption are recovered so they can be used for development.
He says PNG was one of the first countries in the region to sign the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
Its provisions allow for the freezing or confiscation of assets in other countries that have also signed it.
PNG was recently ranked 154th out of a 182 countries on the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.
