Sport: Auckland City fall at first hurdle

9:32 am on 9 December 2011

Auckland City has fallen at the first stage of the Fifa Club World Cup tournament in Japan, after a 2-nil loss to Japanese champions Kashiwa Reyso on Friday.

The O-League champions Auckland provided the shock of the tournament in 2009 when they unexpectedly won two games but strikes from Junya Tanaka and Masato Kudo ensured there would be no repeat.

Captain Ivan Vicelich says the team is dissapointed and expected more from themselves.

Reysol now face Mexico's Monterrey at the weekend for the right to play South American champions Santos of Brazil in the semi-finals.
