The Oceania Football Confederation has nominated American Samoa's men's team for the annual FIFA Fairplay Award.
OFC general secretary Tai Nicholas says American Samoa was dubbed the worst team in the world having lost 30 games and holding the record defeat 31-0 against Australia in 2001.
But that changed last month when the territory won its first international match against Tonga in Apia.
Nicholas says the attitude of the American Samoa team illustrates all that is good about the game of football and the spirit of the Fair Play Award giving recognition to good sporting behavior.
